UCSB RESIDENTIAL DINING offers students not living in the residence halls the option to eat in the University-owned dining commons during the academic year and during the summer with our Summer Meal Plans. This includes the three dining commons: CarrilloDe La Guerra, and Portola.  Additionally, Off Campus Meal Plans include the opportunity to access Take Out at Ortega Commons

What You Need To Know

  • All meal plan holders must pass the Student Health COVID Screening on a daily basis to enter the Dining Commons.
  • Meal plans are offered on a quarter by quarter basis, please sign up each quarter. Plans will automatically cancel at the end of each quarter.
  • Sign up online anytime during the quarter. Please refer to the grid below, the plan start week that you select indicates the rate for the remainder of the quarter.
  • A color photo ACCESS card with an RFID chip that will tap at the dining commons card reader is required for every meal.
  • Black & White Access ‘ID’ cards, or cards without an RFID chip are not accepted.  
  • Meal plans run Monday-Sunday.
  • Meals do not roll over to the following week.
  • Excess meals are charged to the BA/RC account at the guest meal rate.
  • NOTE: you may begin accessing meals during the week selected on your online application, however it may take up to 2 weeks before charges appear on your BA/RC statements. At the dining commons lobby, please present the email confirmation received to your umail account as a meal plan proof of purchase, until the meal plan has been assigned on to your Access card.
  • You may only change or cancel a meal plan for the current, or for a future week. No changes or cancellations will be permitted for past weeks. Cancellations for the current week can only be made if no meals have been redeemed.
  • When cancelling online, please select from the price grid the week you wish to cancel your meal plan, your meal plan will be cancelled for the remainder of the quarter based on the week selected. Only one cancellation request is necessary to cancel your meal plan for the remainder of the quarter. 
  • Meal plans must be in effect for 2 weeks before a change or cancellation can be requested.  The Change and Cancel links will appear on the site after the second week of the quarter. 
  • Only one cancellation per quarter is permitted.
  • Changes and cancellations cannot be made after the 8th week of the quarter.

Current Meal Plan (Fall 2021)

We will start accepting Fall Quarter meal plan requests on September 13, 2021. Fall Quarter Meal Plans start on Monday, September 20, 2021.  Once purchased, no changes or cancellations may occur until week 3 (October 4, 2021).  Please read all the information on this site before requesting a meal plan.

  • Important Dates
    • Monday (09/20/21) = First meal for Fall Quarter will be breakfast
    • Sunday (11/14/21) = Last day to cancel or make changes to Fall Quarter meal plans
    • Friday (12/10/21) = Last meal served for Fall Quarter will be dinner
    • Monday (12/13/21) = We will begin accepting Winter Quarter 2022 meal plan requests
  • Cardholders must obtain a new access card with RFID chip to participate in the meal plan. To request a RFID chip updated access card email ucen-access@ucsb.edu.  You will not be granted entry without a new card.
  • All meal plan holders must pass the Student Health COVID Screening on a daily basis in order to be cleared to visit the Dining Commons. If an Off-Campus Meal Plan holder is directed to Quarantine or Isolate by a medical professional, we may pause the meal plan until the Off-Campus Meal Plan holder is cleared to return to the Dining Commons.
  • Please wear a face covering (without a valve) as it may be required to enter the Dining Commons.
